About Ténurb-Géneau
Ténurb-Géneau is the artistic alias of French painter Alain Géneau Brunet (1935). His uncle, a painter associated with the Barbizon school, was one of the inspirations behind his artistic development. Later, he pursued his education at the École des Arts Decoratifs in Paris. Instead of becoming a full-time painter immediately, he was employed by an airline for a number of years. This allowed him to travel extensively, painting whenever possible and visiting many of the world’s premier museums and galleries.
In 1977, the French art dealer Émmanuel David discovered Alain’s works (florals, still life, landscapes and portraits of women) and encouraged him to devote more time to painting. A few years later, Alain retired from the airline and began painting full time. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, as well as solo exhibitions in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, Venezuela, the Ivory Coast, and at the Wally Findlay Galleries in the United States. During this period, he also exhibited in major Paris Salons – including the Salon d’Automne, the Salon des Artistes Français, and the Salon de la Socie te Nationale des Beaux-Arts.
Ténurb-Géneau is the name of Alain’s evocative abstract series, a body of work that blossomed in the years following the 2000s. Ténurb-Géneau blends abstract expression with subtle figurative elements, resulting in deeply atmospheric pieces that invite contemplation. With a refined colour palette and a distinctive textural approach, his paintings resonate with a quiet intensity, capturing moments that feel both personal and universal. Though Alain laid down his brushes three years ago due to a vision impairment, his artistic spirit still paints through each stroke left behind.
